At the moment, the 14 7000 series is available in three fixed configurations starting at $ 800 (£ 599, AU $ 1,300, configurations vary by region). That’s $ 50 less than the input model we tested last year, but Dell used a touch screen resolution of 1,366×768 pixels this time instead of the 1,920×1,080 screen we got last time.
The base model also has a newer Intel Core i5-4210U processor, 6 GB of memory, integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 and a 500 GB hard drive at 5,400 rpm. Pony raises $ 200 more and gets the full HD touchscreen, 2GB more RAM and a Core i7-4510U dual-core CPU. Add another $ 50 in addition to that and Dell puts a 32GB mSATA SSD to accompany the 500GB hard drive (which is the model tested here).
These are all good prices for what you get. However, you can not adjust the settings at all. So, if you want to pay a little more for just the 1080p screen, or a faster processor, or more memory, you can not: you’ll have to get them all for an additional $ 200.
